Purple For Polio Charity Race Night!

The Banstead Rotary Race Night raised £280!

Members were joined by friends and guests including Epsom Rotary Club and Priory House residents. The fundraiser took place on Tuesday 5 September at Cuddington Golf Club and 33 people attended. A two course fish & chip supper was followed by the charity race night to raise funds for End Polio Now .

Massive thanks to all involved especially: David who acted as Master of Ceremonies, Jane who promoted the raffle, Roger who ran the racing videos, plus Len and Suzanne who organised the bets.

One of the International projects for which Rotary is best known is “End Polio Now”

a programme to immunise the world’s children against polio . This was started in 1985 a joint-venture between Rotary, World Health Organisation and Bill Gates Foundation

At the time there were 350,000 cases reported in 1985 across 125 countries

Last year 2022 there were only 30 new cases reported which were confined to Afghanistan Pakistan and Mozambique. In 2023 to date 7 children have been paralysed by polio. This is a magnificent achievement but work still must continue to consolidate the eradication by continuing vaccination in vulnerable countries.

With Gates Foundation matching funds our donation will be tripled!
